GUST was founded in 2015 as part of Umina Community Group and joined PEG in 2021. GUST welcomes new volunteers to help plant shade trees on the Woy Woy Peninsula. As well as providing habitat for birds and wildlife, looking great and absorbing carbon dioxide, trees are vital to keep us cool: the Peninsula has less than 10 per cent tree cover (the NSW government recommends 40 per cent) and as a result is about 4C hotter than surrounding suburbs. https://www.growurbanshadetrees.org/
